Open Letter to All Members of Congress
Please stop!
Day after day, week, after week, you all talk of a NEW ‘bombshell’ report or ‘article’ that is supposed to be a smoking gun against a political figure. One side cries foul. The other side exclaims ‘what about______’. News programs discuss it in length as they bring on various experts & politicians.
Committees are formed. Witnesses called to testify before Congress. Members play gotcha question games. The horrible thing committed by the politician or agency person is explained over & over.
And after all the vitriol, supposed evidence of wrong doing, & hearings…
NOTHING HAPPENS.
As Shakespeare once wrote – “It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Quoting a playwright seems apropos to what we as Americans watch, which is nothing more than just that.
No indictments. No impeachments with people leaving office. No firings. No recourse or punishment of any kind. They are all remakes of a TV show we have all seen before and hated. Only the main character changes, while the supporting players remain the same.
I think many Americans feel we are watching nothing more than the WWE, a set of good vs bad characters, not for entertainment, but to gin up votes and donations. The shouts of “We must stop_______from _______or (insert something tragic)” is used to set fear into the minds of many ordinary citizens & rally their side. Using faux morality & justice platitudes to persuade seems to be the standard now. Long gone are the days of civil discussion, common sense, & respect for the people of this country.
Many in Washington D.C. it seems have forgotten that the majority of Americans politically lie in the middle, although, they may sway slightly to one side depending on the issue. So, we ask you all to stop the fear mongering, hyperbole, & pointless hearings. When it comes to accusations of wrong doing & holding someone accountable, to put it bluntly as my grandmother once side – Either shit or get off the pot.
